The new Wheeled Sports Park has been hugely successful, becoming a destination park and attracting both local people and users from surrounding areas.
Witney Town Council in conjunction with MES (MES Crew are a collective of graffiti writers, artists, designers and musicians – Mad Eclectic Styles) is hosting a street art competition event which showcases the transformation of the park’s vertical surfaces into canvases. Specially invited artists, a mix of local artists with others that are known nationally and internationally for their work, will tackle the transformation. The brief will focus on; colour, inclusivity, youth, environment & Witney. Artists have freedom of expression, so how they encapsulate this is up to them.
The aim of the competition is to add colour and vibrancy to the park using street art that is an accepted part of Wheeled Sports culture. Future plans for the park could involve a secondary function as an exhibition space that showcases how street art can instantly change ordinary spaces into extraordinary places and celebrates this art form at its best.
In future there may be opportunities for local artists and the youth community to create regular refreshes of some of the art.
This exciting competition takes place on Saturday 5th October between 9 am and 5pm. The Wheeled sports park will be closed for its usual skate and ride activities during this time, but there will be music to entertain visitors and refreshments available from the Coffee Shed.
Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy watching these talented artists get creative. This demonstration is a testament to the creativity and talent of the artists, and a reminder of the importance of supporting and celebrating public art.
