What is a town/parish council?

Town and parish councils are made up of elected members known as councillors who make decisions on behalf of the community.

Where can I pay my Council Tax?

You can pay your Council Tax through Oxfordshire County Council, by using online payment portals on their website, by direct debit, via bank transfer, or over the phone.

What is a councillor?

A councillor is an elected member of a local council, such as a town or parish council. Councillors represent the interests of their constituents, participate in decision-making, and help address local issues. They work to improve their community and ensure that local services are effectively delivered.

How can I become a councillor?

To become a councillor, you typically need to meet certain eligibility criteria, such as being at least 18 years old and a resident or working within the council area. You can then either stand for election as an independent candidate or represent a political party. I have a query about bins. Who do I ask?

For queries about bins, such as collection schedules, missed pickups, or recycling information, you should contact West Oxfordshire District Council. Who do I contact about potholes and roads?

To report problems such as uneven pavements and potholes, please report them on Fix My Street, administered by Oxfordshire County Council who will investigate the issue or pass on to any other relevant authority. Where can I find information on Housing Support and Council Housing?

You can find more information on housing support on the West Oxfordshire District Council website: Housing – West Oxfordshire District Council. There you will be able to read further about council housing and the various types of support available.

Where can I get a bus pass?

Oxfordshire County Council administer bus passes. You can apply online on their website, over the phone on 0345 3101111, or apply in person at the Witney Library. Be sure to check the eligibility criteria and required documentation before applying. Typically, you may need to provide identification and proof of residency. For additional assistance, the OCC phone number or staff at the Witney Library can guide you through the application process and answer any questions you might have.

How can I put a poster on the Town Council noticeboard?

To display a poster on one of our town’s noticeboards, the event or topic being advertised must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:

  • The event is free of charge.
  • Any proceeds from the event will be donated to charity.

Additionally, all posters on the noticeboards must be events taking place in Witney. If your poster fits this criteria, please send it to the Witney Town Council email address: info@witney-tc.gov.uk or hand it to the friendly staff in our reception at Market Square.

Where can I find information on the Witney High Street Consultation?
